Loving life behind the lens

KEEP your pictures simple and clean.” It may sound easy but professional photographers say it’s not as easy as it sounds.

Limit your subjects for a better shot. Too many subjects will make it messy. Those are the suggestions by photography fraternity

Capturing prized moments and events of life are what makes our life more meaningful. Photographs are everyone’s interest. The significance of taking shots differs across people of all walks of life. Some take it for fun, some for admiration of nature’s beauty, some to commemorate precious memories and so on, so forth.

Making beautiful photographs involves nothing more than a bit of thought. If you would like to:

1.Bring home much more pleasing memories from your travels;
2.Make more artistic portraits of your family, pets, or friends;
3.Be satisfied and excited instead of disappointed every time you look at your photos; or
4.Simply enjoy the process of making pictures more

Photography is my passion too but not on a serious note, though. The interest ignited when i owned my first digi cam long time back and started capturing the magnificence of nature. It was so much fun to experiment on photoshots. The mixing of colours, dimensions and the background lightings and locations, spice up the whole beauty of the shot. It makes it worthwhile spending extra bucks on camera and time.

I learned simple photography tips from some of my friends on how to improvise this skill.

1. Picking a right camera
2. Photography terms: For eg.Aperture: How wide the opening in a lens is. The larger the opening, the more light gets in.
3.Lghting: Light is the most important aspect of photography. Without light, there would be no photography.
4.Composition: A picture becomes art when you utilize your angles, and make the viewer wonder. Just taking a snap shot of something isn't really art. You need to explore the image, and see what angles, or lighting makes it interesting. getting low to the ground, or just showing part of something can help make your pictures be more interesting.
5.Taking better pictures
The only way to take better pictures, is to take more of them. Take your camera everywhere, and snap a photo of whatever peaks your interest. By experimenting, the skills can be polished

So, letz get this rolling! Get a camera if you dont own one. Look out for good locations and the right elements to get the shutter flicking away. Experiment! I assure its great fun and a good learning curve for most.

P.s. Avoid taking shots in ladies/washrooms. Its not a good idea coz its as if your running out of locations to get your camera in action. Pathetic! :)

Empowering Woman: Marie Curie

Marie Sklodowska-Curie (1867-1934), a Polish by birth, was a physicist and a chemist. She was born in Warsaw on November 7, 1867, the daughter of a secondary-school teacher. She received a general education in local schools and some scientific training from her father. She became involved in a students' revolutionary organization and found it prudent to leave Warsaw. In 1891,Marie Curie obtained her higher degree in Paris. She did her studies at the Sorbonne where she obtained Licenciateships in Physics and the Mathematical Sciences. Curie was definitely a pride to woman with her exemplary achievements. The only woman to receive two Nobel Prizes — one for physics in 1903 which she shared with her husband Pierre Curie, and another for chemistry in 1911. She was also the first woman professor of general physics at the University of Paris.

Her early researches, together with her husband, were often performed under difficult conditions, laboratory arrangements were poor and both had to undertake much teaching to earn a livelihood. Despite the lack of proper laboratory facilities, she and Pierre isolated radioactive isotopes and discovered two new elements - polonium (named after the country of her birth) and radium. Curie developed methods for the separation of radium from radioactive residues in sufficient quantities to allow for its characterization and the careful study of its properties, therapeutic properties in particular.

Following the death of her husband, Madam Curie actively promoted the use of radium to alleviate pain during the World War I and later with the help of her daughter Irene, devoted herself to this remedial work. She also went on to set up a private Radium Institute with the funding from the French government, at which research was carried out in chemistry, physics, and medicine. The Institute has since produced four more Nobel Prize winners, including Irene and her husband Frederic Joliot.

Madam Curie died in 1934 of aplastic anaemia contracted from exposure to radiation. She was 67 years of age. The damaging effects of radiation were not then known, and much of her work had been carried out without any safety measures. It is said that she had carried test tubes containing radioactive isotopes in her pocket. Curie, quiet, dignified and unassuming, was held in high esteem and admiration by scientists throughout the world.

Solemn Sunday

It was rather a glum day from the time i got out of my bed till i peek out into the window. Things seem so different. The weather did justice to the gloomy sense encircling the whole atmosphere. Not even a slight tint of sun rays streaked across my window. Probably its sunday, a day which i dont wish to drag my feet from the bed since i know its my last day of the weekend, before moody Monday hits the reality!

Hopefully i will regain my composure by tomorrow once i get myself busy with work. Its a long day and start of a week. Lots of stuffs to work on. I gotta hit my bed before its too late. Or else i will be up next morning with a puffy eyes like a zombie and a bad mood.

Signing off...zzzzzz

What’s in a Brand?

Shopping is something i love to do the most. Whoever said, shopping is a waste of time didn’t know where and how to shop! Now, what i am going to emphasize here is all about brands, brands and nothing but brands! Coz we all want to be labelled with the best in some way or another. We cant live in denial when comes to the statement i quoted above. That's the truth.

Is it wise to splurge our savings on pricey items of a branded label? Why not invest our money on something that is more beneficial. On my personal upfront,I believe we can buy a reasonably priced T-shirt at any non-branded shop and still enjoy the pleasure of being fashionable, attractive and comfortable in it. Why not? Ahaha..yes you can.

Do we really want to burn a hole in our pockets each time we step out of the house to buy something? Take Evita Peroni, a hair accessories brand, for example. Loads of similar hair clips can be bought at other outlets for a price that may be 10 times cheaper.

Being brand-conscious is not bad afterall simply because at times branded items have better quality, last long and worth the money. For instance, it may be good to invest your money in a fine watch of Polo Club or Tag Heuer for the simple reason that it is comfy and lasts longer and at the same time it gives a stylish look when worn. But we need to be a smart shopper too.Statistics have shown that many young women spend so much of their money on branded items that eventually make them broke. Its a status inducer for many girls.

On the other hand, there is no need to spend a fortune on something that you can get at a much cheaper price. At the end of the day, it always pays to be a smart shopper. As long as we bring out the best in whateva we are in!

Climatic Revolution

Lately, the intense heat wave sweeping us, is notably torturous. It has been months, since the dry spell made its way and making things seem so intolerable. On the other part of the world, which i still remember, somewhere during early of this year, weather is really cold and it keeps snowing. This is alarming! We cant afford to be ignorant to the fact that Mother Nature is rebelling against us. The climate is getting turbulent. From time to time, Tsunami alert goes off out of the blue! Not to mention, tremors popping out to warn us. We have heard so much about global warming, green emission gas and the melting of the ice caps.

The REAL question is? What has been done to circumvent these rising earth's anguish? Now it all comes down to us as a responsible human being to put a stop to these distress call of nature! Lets all begin with a single step by choosing to live an environmentally friendly lifestyle to save our planet. Five ways to advocate green living:

1. Switch to Reusable Shopping Bags
This will be a most effective way to kickstart our goal. Plastic bags uses a lot of natural resources, and most end up as non biodegradable litter that destroys landscapes, clogs water channels, and kills thousands of marine mammals that mistake the ubiquitous bags for food.

2. Drive less
Driving causes air pollution by emission of greenhouse gases. When you do drive, make sure your car is running efficiently.Every gallon of gas you save not only saves cost, it also keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.

3. Switch off when not in use
Save electricity and reduce global warming by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need. And remember to turn off your television, when you're not using them.

4. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R)
Do your part to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

5. Choose vegetarian or vegan meals
Livestock are responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than transportation is. This is due to the large amounts of petroleum used in creating ammonium nitrate fertilizer (for the corn that they are fed) plus the cost of shipping that corn to the cattle and then shipping the cattle to slaughter and grocery. If one eats meat it should always be from a local source. Choosing vegetarian foods also drastically reduces agricultural water consumption and land use, and favorably impacts biodiversity

The future is not somewhere we are going. It is something we are creating. Therefore we should start creating a better future by making our earth a better place to live in. Global warming already disrupts millions of lives daily in the forms of destructive weather patterns as we are experiencing it now. What is already happening is only the tip of the melting iceberg, for it is the future generation who may suffer most from the effects of global warming. Reducing your carbon and greenhouse gas emissions will not only make your personal living space more sustainable but it will also save you money in both the short- and long-term.

A journey of thousand miles must start with a single step.

On that grave note, i'm signing off.

Earth Hour: A grave trepidation or publicity stunt?

Earth Hour is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change.A year later,Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. All the prominent landmarks stood in darkness as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

There was a lot of publicity about Earth Hour last year.Every nook and corner, Earth Hour was the sensational event. It was splashed in newspapers, TV advert, and media an etc. This year,is somewhat different in comparison to last year, at least in Malaysia. Was Earth Hour a fad, where so much effort was pumped in last year and people have just lost interest in it this time around? My personal upfront says Earth Hour is sorta promotion ruse with aggressive sales pic going on.

Regardless to say the noble cause to organize such a campaign is worth a salute. Hats off to WWF! Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of climate change issues. But there’s more to it than switching off lights for one hour once a year. It’s all about giving people a voice on the future of our planet and working together to create a sustainable low carbon future for our planet.

To me, i totally disagree on the one hour surveillance as it doesn't make a speck of difference. One hour is nothing. The act of turning off the lights, and turning it on again an hour later, defeats the purpose of Earth Hour. Certainly more energy is used to switch on the lights again than to have kept it on for one hour. It should be observed every single day. The real gist for justifying mother nature's plight.

New economic modelling indicates the world has just five years to initiate a low carbon industrial revolution before runaway climate change becomes almost inevitable. But it can be done, and the long term benefits will be enormous.

The clock is ticking away! Even though one hour is insufficient,i took a stand to advocate this simple cause by making a change right from me.Simply because our future depends on it!
